Rooibos Tea

The story of Rooibos is a uniquely interesting one... It was the local people who first discovered that the fine, needle-like leaves of the wild Aspalathus Linearis plant made a tasty, aromatic tea. It is native to the northern Cedarberg region in the Western Cape, South Africa and can grow up to 1.5 metres in height. Rooibos tea, cherished for its mahogany colour, deep aroma, full-bodied taste and health benefits, is today a very popular drink worldwide. It is enjoyed hot or iced, with milk or without, even baked into sweets and gourmet meals.

Rooibos is naturally caffeine free and this makes it an ideal beverage for pregnant or breastfeeding mothers, babies, toddlers and children, and anyone trying to cut down on their caffeine intake or want to avoid the stimulating effects of caffeine. It can be consumed in quantity by those who want to use it as a fluid replacement. Rooibos is calorie and fat free thus it is ideal for anybody on a special dietary program. Rooibos is also low in tannin and high in anti-oxidants. It contains a very rare anti-oxidant called nothofagin - this means Rooibos tea could potentially help your body to prevent or fight diseases like cancer, heart disease and strokes. Currently Rooibos is the only known natural source of aspalathin, an anti-oxidant.

Rooibos is rich in naturally occurring vitamins and contains many essential minerals and trace elements such as calcium, magnesium, manganese, iron and ascorbic acid.
